3-star RB one of 4 Texas State commits
By Damon Sayles
Texas State had a huge commitment Sunday, scoring four commits while hosting a big official visit day. The Bobcats happened to pick up their first running back commitment of the 2013 class, one who accounted for nearly 3,500 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns for his high school varsity career.
Three-star running back Bryce Peters (Houston/Cypress Falls) verbally committed to Texas State and was the third of four commitments Sunday. A 5-foot-10, 204-pound back, Peters ultimately chose the Bobcats over offers from Colorado State and New Mexico. He also had offers from Iowa State, Louisiana Tech, UTEP and UNLV, among others.
“I just really like the coaching staff. That’s where it all started,” said Peters, who was recruited by defensive coordinator Craig Naivar. “I also liked the players they’re recruiting right now. I got to talk to some of those guys, and I thought I’d fit in well.”
As a senior, Peters rushed for 1,660 yards and 19 touchdowns, and he averaged nearly 10 yards per carry. Peters rushed for 1,189 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior and 620 yards and seven touchdowns as a sophomore.
Wide receiver Isaiah Battle was Peters’ player host. Peters said he was a fan of the atmosphere of the campus, as well as the city of San Marcos, Texas.
“Talking to some of the others who committed before me, they were all saying how they really liked it,” Peters said. “It was a pretty good feeling to know that. I know I’m going to go in and give them everything I’ve got.”
Peters said he’s committed to Texas State, but he will still take a scheduled official visit to Colorado State this week. The Bobcats now have 16 commitments for the 2013 recruiting class. Peters joined the junior college trio of cornerback Donte Clanton (Woodland Hills, Calif./Pierce College), safety Brandon Jones (Santa Rosa, Calif./Santa Rosa Junior College) and offensive lineman Brandon Sarabia (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield College) as new commitments from Sunday.
