Juco OT Kyle Bottoms happy with ODU
By Sam Khan Jr.
Brenham (Texas) Blinn College offensive tackle Kyle Bottoms likes what he sees in Old Dominion's future. With Monarchs moving from the FCS level to the FBS level and the feel he got on his official visit in early December made Bottoms feel that they were the right fit for him.
So when Wednesday -- the first year that mid-year transfers can sign a letter of intent -- arrives, Bottoms will sign with Old Dominion.
On his official visit, he took in the Monarchs' playoff game against Coastal Carolina in the second round of the FCS playoffs. The experience was a positive one.
"The area was really nice," Bottoms said. "The players, I feel like I can get along with the players. The facilities are amazing and I feel like the coaches are young, so they can relate to us more. That's what I liked about it. I also got to talk to their athletic director and they have a good plan for the future."
The 6-foot-4, 300-pound Bottoms, who will play either tackle spot when he arrives on campus, was recruited by special teams coordinator and offensive line coach Michael Zyskowski. He had offers from several other programs, including Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Central Arkansas, Gardner-Webb, Lamar, Sam Houston State and Western Illinois.
