Will Barrow decommits from Texas Tech

By Damon Sayles

Early-morning news has turned into not-so-great news for Texas Tech.

According to his high school recruiting coordinator early Monday morning, three-star defensive back Will Barrow (Dallas/Skyline) has decided to part ways with the Red Raiders. Jason R. Garrett said Barrow, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound cornerback who also saw time at safety for Skyline, has decommitted and will explore other options.

Barrow’s decision comes days after former Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville accepted a similar position with Cincinnati. Garrett, however, said Tuberville’s departure played a role in Barrow’s decision, but it was a lesser role. Garrett said there was miscommunication between the staff and Barrow involving an official visit and an in-home visit.

Texas Tech was Barrow’s first offer in February. He committed to the Red Raiders on Feb. 21. Since then, Barrow has picked up offers from Tulsa, Washington State and Houston.

Garrett said Barrow is looking to set up an official visit to Tulsa very soon. Considered one of Skyline's vocal leaders, Barrow helped his team advance to the Texas Class 5A Division I state quarterfinals this year and the state semifinals last year.
