The three-star defensive end – a former Arizona State commit – on Monday said Oklahoma, West Virginia, Missouri and Baylor are at the top of his list for his recruiting process. Mixon, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound end, said he hopes to make a decision before the end of the year.
Mixon said his front-runner -- for the time being -- is Oklahoma, as he talked about the team’s defensive respect year in and year out. The program has built a reputation of producing quality defensive tackles and defensive ends.
“I love their defense. They run a traditional 4-3,” Mixon said. “I think I can be one of those pass rushers coming off the edge.”
Mixon, however, added that West Virginia, Missouri and Baylor are right in the mix, as well. He likes how West Virginia has established itself in the Big 12 and how the Mountaineers are looking to improve on defense.
Mixon also likes how Missouri is competitive in its first year of SEC play. As for Baylor, the newest player of the four, he is intrigued by being a key defensive player for a team with a offense that has the potential of being explosive at any given time.
While he has a top four, one school is still under consideration -- Arizona State.
“They’re not totally out of the mix for me,” Mixon said. “I’m not going to count them out. They were there for me from the jump. I still like Arizona State and the coaches.”
Mixon’s decision might come after or during the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl next month. He will compete in the bowl game at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Mixon has taken official visits to Arizona State, Oklahoma and West Virginia already, and he’s looking to schedule one to Missouri next month.
