NMST gets another in WR Morehead

By Damon Sayles

New Mexico State might have found something at Dallas Kimball High School.

A day after landing their first pledge in four-star outside linebacker/safety hybrid Brandon Hines, the Aggies picked up commit No. 2 late Thursday in Hines’ teammate Prentavious Morehead, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound wide receiver. Morehead announced his commitment to New Mexico State after Kimball’s 38-13 first-round playoff win against Dallas Bryan Adams.

With a postseason win and his commitment, Morehead called Thursday “one of the best days ever.” He had offers from Kansas State, Syracuse, Colorado State and Louisiana Tech, but playing with a current teammate and a former Kimball teammate in sophomore receiver Austin Franklin was something that was way too intriguing to pass up.

“It’s their Air Raid [offense],” Morehead said. “The ball never stops coming. Every receiver wants the ball, and I’ll get the ball a lot in that offense. I feel I’ll bring a lot. Austin will have some help.”

Morehead showed his skills against Bryan Adams, catching five passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns. Morehead leads the team with 39 receptions for 742 yards and nine touchdowns for the season.

Morehead, who was recruited to New Mexico State by offensive line coach Brad Bedell, said he made his mind up shortly after Hines announced his commitment on Wednesday. With three Kimball players on the Aggies’ roster next season, Morehead is expecting a lot of camaraderie and instant bonding on and off the field.

“It’s time to cause havoc and bring the team up,” Hines said. “I’m too excited. He’s like one of my brothers. We’ve been knowing each other since the seventh grade. Why wouldn’t I want him for another four years?”

“I just feel I’ll be comfortable there,” Morehead added. “He [Hines] is going, and I’m going; plus, Austin is there. I’ll know somebody down there.”
