Watch List OT to attend TCU junior day
By Damon Sayles
ESPN Watch List offensive tackle Josh Pelzel (Rockdale, Texas/Rockdale) has his pick of junior days this weekend. For a while, the 6-foot-6, 315-pound lineman thought this would be a weekend where he would take a break from the early recruiting process.
Pelzel, however, confirmed Thursday evening that he will take in TCU’s junior day on Sunday. Of all the various junior-day invitations, Pelzel said TCU stood out for one primary reason.
“I haven’t been to TCU yet,” Pelzel said. “That’s kind of why I was wanting to go. They’ve told me they have a lot of interest in me, but I’ve never been there. I want to check things out.”
TCU has yet to offer Pelzel, but they have put him pretty high on their list of prospects. Baylor, Texas Tech and Rice have offered Pelzel, and he has been to a Baylor junior day. He also visited Texas Tech in early September and watched the Red Raiders beat Northwestern State in their season opener.
Recruited by TCU offensive line coach Eddie Williamson, Pelzel admits that he doesn’t know much about the Horned Frogs, outside of the fact that they had a solid season in their first playing in the Big 12. This is another reason why Sunday’s junior day is near-mandatory for him.
“I don’t know a whole lot about it, but I’ve watched them play some games,” he said. “My coaches tell me it’s a great program with great facilities and a great staff. Really, this is more for me to get to know the team and the staff. I’m definitely looking forward to hearing from them a little more.”
