Tony Brown has 'great' Texas junior day

By William Wilkerson

ESPN Watch List defensive back Tony Brown (Beaumont, Texas/Ozen) didn’t get to Austin for Texas’ junior day on Sunday until after lunchtime.

While it might have had stomachs turning for those worried he’d never make it, it actually turned out to be a blessing for the Longhorns in their pursuit of one of the top defensive backs in the country.

The Longhorns made an impression on 2014 cornerback Tony Brown.
“It was great,” Brown said. “Because I showed up way later than everyone, I got to go through most of it individually.”

Brown, who was seen posing in a picture wearing a No. 4 Texas jersey alongside fellow Watch List DB Ed Paris (who was wearing No. 3), is as physically imposing a defensive back as you’ll find.

He’s incredibly physical and overly competitive, which has made him a top priority for not only Texas but programs across the country.

In addition to his offer from the Longhorns, Brown also has scholarships available at Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Illinois, LSU, Michigan State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, TCU, Texas A&M, UCLA and USC, to name a few.

Brown has been linked to LSU for much of his recruitment, a statement that was strengthened by the verbal commitment of his sister, Bealoved, to the Tigers’ track and field team earlier this week.

For that reason or another, Texas has been perceived as a school on the outside looking in.

When asked what he had to say to those that don’t think the Longhorns have a legitimate shot, Brown said, “I say they are dead wrong.”

That’s obviously music to the ears of Texas’ coaching staff, who might have had to wait a little longer for Brown to arrive on campus Sunday but could reap the benefits because of it.
