CB Tyler Wrice sticking with FCS offer

12/27/2012

Cornerback Tyler Wrice (Papillion, Neb./La Vista) has had looks from larger, FBS schools, but for the time being he’s intent on playing FCS football next season.

Wrice committed to North Dakota State in August, but since then he has picked up significant interest from Tulsa, Wyoming, Iowa and Iowa State. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound cornerback also has offers from Illinois State, Northern Iowa and Montana. Is it enough for Wrice to make a commitment switch? Would an FBS offer sway him?

Wrice said that while it would be enticing he’s content with his decision. Part of the reason is NDSU coach Craig Bohl, who coached at Nebraska under Tom Osborne in the 1990s and structured his program at NDSU with Osborne’s in mind.

“I like the small-town feel,” Wrice said of NDSU and Fargo, N.D. “The game-day atmosphere is awesome, and after meeting [Bohl], who is a part of the Tom Osborne family tree, it gave me that sense of family and football excellence.

“His staff was honest and top-notch. They talk like a FBS program. I will not be decommitting from NDSU.”

Wrice has a 35-inch vertical and has run the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds. He is expected to play cornerback in college but can also line up as a slot receiver or running back.

“I am confident in my abilities to play with anyone on any level,” Wrice said.
