Outside linebacker hybrid Lawrence Montegut (La Marque, Texas/La Marque) has seven offers, but three schools have been in regular contact and are considered early front-runners in his still-wide-open recruiting process.
Montegut, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound athlete who sees most of his time as a defensive end for La Marque, said Rice, Texas Tech and Texas State have the early advantage on the other schools. He’s heard from those three the most, but he also has offers from Northwestern State, McNeese State, Southeastern Louisiana and Arkansas Tech.
“Rice has the education. I know it’s big on education,” Montegut said. “If I go there, I know I’ll get a good education. With Texas Tech, I’ve been there before for junior day. I liked the campus, and they have a good football tradition.
