Peyton Newell (Hiawatha, Kan.) is on a mission. With every accolade, the 2014 defensive end wants to prove to college scouts that he’s worth a scholarship offer.
Newell’s productivity over the weekend will make him even more of an attractive recruit. He was named the MVP of the National Underclassmen Combine on Saturday at North Kansas City (Mo.) High School. Roughly 200 juniors and sophomores were in attendance competing.
At 6-foot-3 and 270 pounds, Newell ran the 40-yard dash in 4.89 seconds, finished the 20-yard shuttle in 4.4 second and recorded a vertical jump of 30 inches. He also bench-pressed 185 pounds 28 times.
