It was February when cornerback/return specialist Ranthony Texada (Frisco, Texas/Centennial) was still on the hunt for his first offer. A little more than two months later, Texada is now up to five offers and is expecting more looks as the spring continues.
Texada picked up offers from Navy and Troy on Wednesday after receiving an offer from UNLV last week. Western Kentucky and Air Force were his first two offers.
The 5-foot-9, 160-pound junior is being recruited by Navy receivers coach Mick Yokitis. He’s being recruited by cornerbacks coach Julius Brown.
“Navy came out and watched us practice, and after practice, they said they liked my versatility and my feet,” Texada said. “They said I can help them out on defense and their return game.
“Coach Brown and I have been talking a couple of weeks, and he wanted to come down. He said Troy normally doesn’t recruit Texas all that much, but I’m their No. 1 defensive back they’re looking for. Him coming down all the way here made me feel good.”
Additionally, Texada is getting new looks from Colorado, Penn State and Texas Tech.
“It just feels good to get noticed,” Texada said. “I’m just going uphill and thanking God.”
