The spring has been very good to cornerback Maurice Smith (Sugar Land, Texas/Dulles). He has received offers from some of the nation’s elite programs, has been invited to The Opening in July, and on Tuesday afternoon, found out he was included in the initial ESPN 150 for the Class of 2013.
Tuesday evening, the four-star cornerback picked up his 15th offer, as Houston added itself into the Smith sweepstakes. Smith said he had received interest from the Cougars for several months now, and it was exciting to receive an offer from the hometown university.
“Earlier this year, when [Texas A&M] Coach [Kevin] Sumlin was still there, I got a couple of letters from them,” Smith said of Houston. “I didn’t hear anything from them for a while after he left, but I understood because of the coaching changes.
