With every scholarship offer, linebacker Reggie Chevis (Houston/Sharpstown) shows his appreciation with a smile and an opportunity to thank God, his family and his coaches. On Friday, Chevis picked up his 10th offer from Baylor and joined an elite fraternity of recruits who hold double-digit offers.
Chevis, a 6-foot-2, 245-pound inside linebacker, now has offers from Baylor, LSU, Iowa State, Boise State, Texas A&M, Washington State, Illinois, Texas Tech, Rice and UTSA. He has garnered interest for his size, in addition to the strength and speed he possesses with that size. Chevis bench presses 350 pounds and squats 560, and he also runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds.
“I’m very excited and just very blessed for everything,” Chevis said. “They [Baylor] have been recruiting me since last year, so for them to make an offer is exciting. I have to do a little more homework on them, but because they’re very interested in me, I’m going to be very interested in them.
“I’m thanking God every day and grinding one day at a time. I’m enjoying the process, and I’m just waiting for spring ball so I can get better.”
Chevis said he will visit LSU on Saturday, and he is planning on visiting Rice on March 17.
