Arizona CB Cole Luke interested in Texas

3/8/2012

Texas coaches have still yet to offer an in-state cornerback for its 2013 class, but one out-of-state recruit does have their attention.

Cole Luke (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) already holds more than a dozen offers and wouldn’t mind adding Texas to that list. Though his plans aren’t official yet, Luke said he’d like to attend the Longhorns’ spring game on April 1.

“I talk to their coaches on the phone a little bit,” Luke said. “They told me they wanted me to come out for the spring ballgame. I’ve followed them and watched them play for a while. They’re a very good school.”

The 6-foot, 165-pound corner is expected to attend Arizona State’s junior day this weekend, but Luke is adamant that he would play college ball anywhere in the country.

He has had his eyes on Oklahoma and Texas for a long time and even attended last season’s Red River Rivalry game. He made the trip to the Cotton Bowl with his famous relative: Luke is the nephew of former Dallas Cowboys great Darren Woodson.

Luke has offers from both Arizona and ASU, Oklahoma, Michigan, Notre Dame and Nebraska and a handful of other BCS programs. Anyone who makes an offer will get his interest at this stage in his recruitment.

“The state doesn’t really matter to me,” he said. “Where it is on a map doesn’t matter. I’m all-arms open. Going out of state is not a big factor for me.”

Luke recorded 63 tackles and picked off six passes as a junior for Hamilton, and he returned three of those interceptions for touchdowns.

“My biggest strength is probably playing the ball when it’s in the air and going to get it,” he said. “I guess it’s just my all-around football IQ.”
