Jack Kurzu talks Troy offer, multiple visits

2/27/2012

Call it the Jack Kurzu intercontinental college tour.

Over the past few weeks, Kurzu (St. Louis/MICDS) has been all over the country visiting schools and networking with coaches. The offensive lineman’s recent destinations include Miami, Oklahoma State, Iowa, Missouri, Florida, Troy, Auburn and Louisville. On Sunday, he returned home from visiting Illinois.

The objective is to go around, see all the colleges and what they’re like,” said Kurzu, a 6-foot-4, 310-pound lineman. “My parents have encouraged me not to get bogged down with the recruiting process and to just see what’s best for me educationally.

“They all have stood out in different ways. I enjoyed Oklahoma State’s weight room, Iowa’s traditions and Missouri’s community. I’ve enjoyed meeting all the coaches. I’ve left every school in awe.”

Kurzu’s next trip will be to Norman, Okla., this weekend, as he prepares for Oklahoma’s junior day on Saturday. Following junior day, Kurzu has tentatively scheduled a trip to South Bend, Ind., to visit Notre Dame. From a recruiting standpoint, every school he’s visited has expressed interest in him.

Kurzu picked up his first offer on Friday from Troy. He is being recruited by head coach Larry Blakeney and offensive line coach/running game coordinator John Schlarman.

“It’s a huge offer. To be honest, I was not expecting it,” Kurzu said. “I can only describe it as amazing. Getting a chance to play for Coach Blakeney and Coach Schlarman would be an honor.”

Kurzu is considered one of the most versatile linemen in the state of Missouri. He is being recruited as an offensive guard by some schools, an offensive tackle by others, and he also can line up at center.
