Ishmael Wilson commits to Texas A&M

2/18/2012

Texas A&M has done a solid job of recruiting defensive linemen, receivers and a quarterback for the 2013 class. The Aggies now have an offensive lineman to add to its list.

ESPNU 150 Watch List offensive tackle Ishmael Wilson (Dallas/Bishop Dunne) gave a verbal commitment to play for coach Kevin Sumlin and the Aggies on Saturday. Wilson told Bishop Dunne head coach Michael Johnson the news following the A&M junior day.

“He texted me and said he was real excited,” Johnson said. “He loved the place and saw himself playing there. Also said liked them being a part of the SEC and being able to play teams like Alabama and LSU.

“He really fell in love with the atmosphere and Coach Sumlin. I know he’s excited.”

Wilson, a 6-foot-5, 292-pound left tackle, also confirmed his commitment via text message to HornsNation’s Max Olson. Receivers coach David Beaty was Wilson’s primary recruiting contact.

Johnson said A&M was something of a sleeper in Wilson’s recruiting process. LSU and Texas were atop Wilson’s list early, but he had yet to receive an offer from either school. A&M used its junior day as an opportunity to further impress the big lineman and picked up its seventh recruit of the 2013 class.

“He didn’t know anything about A&M. They jumped in this thing real late,” Johnson said. “It was a two-man race between LSU and Texas, but when he didn’t get the offers, it led A&M to pick up a lot of steam.”
