First offer for Clay Rhodes from Mizzou

2/14/2012

Rising offensive tackle Clay Rhodes (Stilwell, Kan./Blue Valley) joined the ranks of 2013 players with college scholarship options, as he picked up his first offer from Missouri on Tuesday afternoon.

Rhodes spoke with his Missouri recruiting contact, receivers coach Andy Hill, Monday night, and Tuesday, he was called into the coaches office at Blue Valley, where he was given the good news. At 6-foot-6 and 260 pounds, Rhodes not only has the size to be a quick tackle but also the frame to add 20 pounds and have it not affect him negatively.

“I had a chance to speak with Coach Hill, then to the offensive line coaches [Josh Henson and Bruce Walker],” Rhodes said. “They said they loved my film, and they said they feel I can play for the black and gold. I talked to [head coach] Gary Pinkel, and he was the one to give me the offer.”

Rhodes said he wasn’t anticipating Missouri to be his first offer. He attended the Kansas junior day this past Saturday, choosing the Jayhawks over the Missouri junior day because of proximity.

“It was a little unexpected,” Rhodes said, “but Coach Hill has been real flexible with me. I’ve been talking to him a lot. Now it feels like all the hard work I put in has really paid off.”

Rhodes said he’s received interest from Tulsa, Kansas State, Kansas, Northwestern, Duke, Michigan and a few other schools. He said he will attend the Tulsa junior day on Saturday and the Iowa State junior day on March 3.
