Four-star defensive lineman Javonte Magee (San Antonio/Sam Houston) has had Baylor, Texas A&M and Missouri atop his college recruiting leaderboard for several weeks. On Friday, Magee chose to head south down Interstate 35.
Magee verbally committed to Baylor and became the Bears’ 20th overall commit and their fifth four-star commit. A U.S. Army All-American, Magee was recruited by defensive tackles coach Chris Achuff.
Magee let his followers know of his decision by way of Facebook. The message was simple: "Just committed to Baylor." Magee confirmed the commitment via text message.
At 6-foot-6 and 258 pounds, Magee brings size and quickness to Baylor. The Bears have always had a slight lead over the other schools, but Magee said he wanted to take his time with the process. He was one of the uncommitted players who chose against making a decision at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl last week in San Antonio.
Magee also had offers from Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Michigan, among other schools. Magee is considered the 18th-ranked defensive tackle in the country and the 30th-ranked player among a loaded list of players from Texas.
