Reggie Long has been getting lots of letters. He wants to prove he deserves more than that.
The 2014 Whitehouse (Texas) outside linebacker has been earning strong interest from SMU and Louisiana-Monroe and said he regularly receives mail from Tulsa, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Michigan and Michigan State.
While that's nice, he’d like to see it develop into much more interest this spring as the junior begins to focus on his recruiting process.
“I’ve had a few coaches come by to talk to me,” Long said. “I’m hoping things pick up.”
The 5-foot-10, 205-pound linebacker recorded 80 tackles, six sacks, two interceptions, four forced fumbles and 12 quarterback hurries as a junior.
Long earned second-team all-district honors for those numbers, and he thinks he has plenty more to provide to a college program.
“I think my strength is I’m a team player and I can be held accountable,” he said. “I’m responsible, I make plays, I fly around and I go 100 percent. I bring the attitude of wanting to win and I love making plays and hitting people.”
Now he just wants to pick up his first offer. Long said he’ll take several junior day trips this spring and is looking forward to making the most of this offseason.
“I’m really working on my speed,” Long said. “I came into the year running a 4.8 40-yard dash and I’m down to like a 4.68 now. I’m getting stronger, but really it’s about my speed.”
