Three-star safety Anthony Morgan (Plano, Texas/Prestonwood Christian) knows which college he wants to attend.
Don’t expect him to spill the beans, however.
Morgan said he is keeping his college decision a secret until the Prestonwood athletic media relations department sets up a time for a press conference. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound safety is uncertain when a press conference will be scheduled, but he will have four hats placed in front of him when the time comes.
“I have 15 offers, but I’ve narrowed everything down to Arizona, Iowa, Stanford and Virginia,” Morgan said. “I’d commit now, but whenever the media at Prestonwood is ready, I’ll let it be known.”
Morgan was a defensive standout for a Prestonwood team that finished 9-3 and advanced two rounds deep in the Texas TAPPS 5A playoffs. Morgan can play both safety and cornerback, and with 4.5 speed, he also can be an option as a punt returner.
Morgan said Arizona, who recently hired Rich Rodriguez to replace Mike Stoops as head coach, is an option because of the competition he’d face in the Pac-12. Iowa is in the mix because of the camaraderie he’s built with the coaching staff. Stanford is an option because of both the football and academic reputation. Virginia is in the running because of its strong showing in the ACC, as well as the competition in the conference.
Morgan also has been offered by Utah State, Iowa State, New Mexico, Colorado State, Vanderbilt and others. Morgan said he’s even mentioned schools that aren’t involved in his recruiting process to have fun with those who ask about his final decision.
“It’s been pretty fun. A lot of people have been guessing,” Morgan said. “They think they know the right answer, and I’ll tell them they’re wrong -- even if they guess right. I just tell people that they have to wait until I announce it.”
