K Ben Grogan chooses Oklahoma State

12/4/2012

Oklahoma State picked up some help in the special teams department late Monday, as three-star kicker Ben Grogan (Arlington, Texas/Martin) gave his verbal commitment to the Cowboys.

Grogan became the 19th member of Oklahoma State’s 2013 recruiting class. The 6-foot-1, 177-pound kicker chose the Cowboys over offers from Kansas and Memphis.

Grogan announced his commitment via Twitter and later confirmed it via text message.

“Committed to OSU tonight!! Officially a cowboy!!” Grogan tweeted.

Recruited by the Cowboys’ director of football recruiting Johnny Barr, Grogan took an unofficial visit to Oklahoma State last week and earned the scholarship on the visit. He is ranked No. 23 among kickers nationally and No. 191 among all players in Texas in the 2013 class.

Grogan’s reputation took a major spike in October, when he made six field goals – three from beyond 50 yards – in a win against North Crowley (Fort Worth, Texas). He connected from 52 yards twice and also drilled a career-long 56-yarder.

Grogan made 39 extra points and connected on 9 of 11 field goals this year for Martin, which finished 7-4 and made the Texas Class 5A Division I playoffs.
