Richard Gipson a versatile LB

Richard Gipson (Tyler, Texas/John Tyler) is one of the rising stars of East Texas, and his play has helped John Tyler emerge not only as one of the state’s top-ranked teams but also a favorite to make a run for a Texas Class 4A state championship.

Gipson, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker, has recorded 58 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a sack for John Tyler. He plays middle linebacker for the Lions, but his natural position in college could be outside linebacker.

“I see myself more on the outside,” Gipson said. “I play Mike [middle linebacker] in high school, but it’s because I’m needed there. When I get to college, I’d like to move to the outside.”
