2014 Monte Harrison talks Mizzou offer

10/14/2012

Monte Harrison (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Lee’s Summit West) opened the season with a four-reception, 119-yard, two-touchdown performance against defending Missouri Class 5 champion Kansas City Staley. Since then, he has emerged as the team’s top receiving option and a reliable punt and kickoff return man.

Missouri was one of the schools to take notice of the 2014 receiver, and the Tigers recently became the first team to extend a football scholarship offer. A 6-foot-3, 185-pound, three-sport standout, Harrison added the Missouri football offer to his offers from Missouri, Arkansas and Kansas to play baseball. Harrison is a star center fielder in the spring.

“It felt really good to get that off my chest,” Harrison said of the football offer. “Now, I can just go out, play football and do what I’ve been doing.”

Recruited to play football by Missouri receivers coach Andy Hill, Harrison said the Tigers are looking at him more on the defensive side of the ball. It’s been discussed that Missouri wants to play him in the secondary, more specifically as a safety.

“They’re asking me a lot of questions about safety, but I’m fine with it,” Harrison said. “When I was younger, I played safety, so I’m comfortable with it. It’s all read and reaction.”

Harrison also is hearing from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Illinois and Kansas. He’s a part of a Lee’s Summit West team that is 8-0 on the season.
