Since losing to No. 3 Allen (Texas) earlier in the season, Longview (Texas) has been impressive and looks to be a legitimate contender among the Texas Class 5A ranks.
On Friday, Longview scored a convincing, 54-21 win over Mesquite (Texas), a team that played Fab 50 team Denton (Texas) Billy Ryan to overtime three weeks ago. Here are six of Longview’s standout players Friday:
QB Bivins Caraway: It’s uncertain whether a team will try to convert Caraway, a junior, into a defensive player in college, but he showed his ability to play quarterback on Friday. Caraway threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third, and he seemed to make all the right decisions.
WR Eric Hawkins: Hawkins, an Arkansas commit, only caught two passes, but one of those was a 49-yard, second-quarter touchdown. Hawkins has good speed and great hands, and there's a reason why the Razorbacks want his services.
DL Cornelius Williams: A load inside, the 2013 prospect made life miserable for Mesquite’s offense, breaking through the offensive line to make multiple plays. Williams is strong and deceptively quick off the ball.
RB J’Haston Faggans: Faggans was limited last year with ankle injuries, but the blue-collar back looked strong against Mesquite. Faggans touched the ball 10 times and scored on three occasions.
FB Deontre’ Wilson: It takes more than one person to tackle Wilson, a bullish back who loves to go north and south. Wilson also showed versatility by taking a direct snap for the game’s first touchdown. A potential TE or H-back in college, Wilson also is a model student-athlete.
ATH Tory White: White can line up as a RB, WR, KR or PR, and his speed and quickness makes him a dangerous athlete. One of the fastest players on the team, the 2013 prospect made several Mesquite players miss throughout Friday.
