ULM a strong candidate for Trevor Melugin

Louisiana-Monroe fell short of another upset against an SEC team on Saturday, but if nothing else, the Warhawks gained full respect from the college football world.

That respect has been with offensive lineman Trevor Melugin (Prosper, Texas/Prosper) for quite some time now. The 6-foot-2, 300-pound guard has a high interest in ULM, and he’s been in contact with the Warhawks with the hope that the interest turns into a scholarship offer.

“I know they’re in the Sun Belt [Conference], and that’s not the biggest conference, but I think they’ve got a bunch of good coaches and players,” Melugin said of ULM. “They are going to be on the rise for the next couple of years.

“I got my first call from them the other night. [Area recruiting contact] Coach [Adam] Waugh called me, and he said I’m high on their board. They’ve got a couple offensive lineman commits already, so they’re going to wait on offering for now.”

The Warhawks arguably are the nation’s most dangerous team and showed they’re not a fluke after shocking Arkansas, 34-31, on Sept. 8 and falling to Auburn, 31-28, in overtime on Saturday. ULM hosts Baylor on Friday. Melugin and his high school team will play Lake Ridge (Mansfield, Texas) on Friday, but he will be looking to check out a ULM-Baylor replay once he gets home.

Melugin is a guard on offense, but he also lines up as a tackle for Prosper’s defense. In addition to ULM, Melugin also is getting major looks from Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane were the first to contact Melugin, and he said they have invited him to a home game, an opportunity he said he’s planning on accepting sometime next month.
