OLB Nick Akins talks UNLV offer 

Standing a shade under 6-feet tall and now weighing 215 pounds, Nick Akins (Mesquite, Texas/West Mesquite) can look appealing as either an outside linebacker or a safety. Akins played outside linebacker for West Mesquite, but with 4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash and a respectable bench press (315 pounds) and squat (455), he's capable of playing multiple spots on the defensive side of the ball.

Which position he'll play in college is still up in the air. He's quick enough to play in the secondary but strong enough to play linebacker. Where Akins will play in college, however, recently became even more of a mystery. Akins picked up his fourth offer, from UNLV on Saturday.

"I'd only gotten letters from them, no calls," said Akins, who is being recruited by UNLV defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach J.D. Williams. "But when I found out they offered, I tried calling [head] Coach [Bobby] Hauck. It feels great knowing that hard work and staying humble pays off.
