For many, Friday’s scrimmage pitting Texas programs West Mesquite and DeSoto is just that – a scrimmage. But West Mesquite 2015 quarterback Chason Virgil is looking at it in a totally different light.
For him, it’s a make-or-break opportunity.
DeSoto has been among the nation’s most respected teams for the past few years, and Virgil is using Friday’s scrimmage as a chance to show he can run an offense against an elite team. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound quarterback also is using this game as the first step toward redemption. His freshman campaign on varsity was cut short after he broke his right wrist -- his throwing wrist -- midseason in 2011.
