Juco RB Aaron Wimberly chooses ISU

8/22/2012

Iowa State added a third running back and its 15th overall commit in the 2013 recruiting class on Wednesday in former Georgia high school standout Aaron Wimberly (Council Bluffs, Iowa/Iowa Western Community College).

A 5-foot-10, 180-pound sophomore, Wimberly chose Iowa State over offers from Troy and Charlotte. A former all-county standout at South Gwinnett High School (Snellville, Ga.), Wimberly also received interest from Georgia and Iowa.

“It was a hard decision trying to take everything slowly,” Wimberly said, “but I feel I made the best decision for me. I took an unofficial visit there, and I liked everything, from the academics to how the program is growing.”

Wimberly rushed for 887 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, helping Iowa Western compile a 6-4 record. He was recruited by receivers coach Luke Wells and said the sincerity of coaching staff was part of the reason he chose the Cyclones.

“They’re on the rise,” Wimberly said. “Coach Wells and Coach [Paul] Rhoads both are cool coaches. Coach Rhodes is very down to earth. He works you hard, but he likes to have fun.”

Wimberly joins three-star high school running backs Tyler Brown (Lakeland, Fla./Lake Gibson) and Justin Webster (Houston/Northland Christian) in the recruiting class.
