RB Jabari Anderson expecting big year

8/19/2012

Wylie (Texas) East has three FBS commits from the 2013 class in ESPN 300 receiver Marcell Ateman (Oklahoma State), three-star receiver Quan Jones (Baylor) and versatile tight end Jesse Brubaker (SMU). Running back Jabari Anderson hopes to be the fourth.

A shade under 5-foot-8 and 177 pounds, Anderson isn’t the biggest player on the field. Still, it’s difficult not to recognize all that he achieved as a junior. With two Big 12-bound receivers on the field, Anderson managed to rush for 2,144 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also caught 24 passes for 238 yards.

“They say the offers are going to come,” said Anderson, referring to the Wylie East players already committed. “Just be patient.”

Anderson has more than 3,300 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns in two varsity seasons. He’s a back who not only has run the 40 in 4.38 seconds but also has bench pressed 335 pounds and squatted 550.

Anderson is still waiting to pick up his first offer, but Texas Tech, Houston, Kansas and Mississippi State have shown interest. Anderson said he’s heard from Texas Tech most recently. Anderson participated in the Red Raiders’ satellite camp in June in Rockwall, Texas.

“They’ve already offered one (running back), and they said they’re going to offer two,” Anderson said of Texas Tech. “All I know right now is they’re showing a lot of interest.”

Anderson is hoping to repeat -- and possibly trump -- last year’s success on the field. He averaged 9.4 yards per carry and ultimately was the co-MVP of his district and an all-state selection.
