Arthur Lockett (Houston/Yates) rushed for 1,902 yards and 26 touchdowns and averaged better than nine yards per carry as a junior. Surprisingly to some, the 5-foot-9, 185-pound running back is still looking for his first offer.
Lockett is hoping that offer comes soon, as he’s been in recent contact with Louisiana Tech and Memphis. Schools such as Houston, Texas Tech, SMU and Oregon State also have been in touch with him throughout his recruiting process.
Lockett said playing for a school that has such a rich basketball history might be a reason why his statistics have been somewhat overlooked. Rather than complain about it, Lockett said he’s preparing to trump what he did on the field last year – particularly with Yates dropping in classification from Class 4A to Class 3A.
“I’m aiming for 3,000 yards, and I’m trying to get 35-40 touchdowns,” Lockett said. “I went for 1,900 yards and still have no offers. I really don’t think our team gets the respect we should. We have the talent at Yates, and we’ve got a bunch of skill players. I’ve learned that you’ve just got to keep on fighting through it.”
Lockett participated in one camp, a Texas Tech satellite camp in Pearland, Texas, and took one unofficial visit to Houston over the summer. He said he’s in the process of setting up official visits.
