Justis Nelson (Mesquite, Texas/Dallas Christian) had the nation’s most prestigious universities in his back pocket, entertaining offers from Harvard, Colgate, Air Force and Bucknell.
When it was time for the 6-foot-2, 168-pound, two-way athlete to make a decision, however, playing in the Big 12 proved to be something he couldn’t pass up.
Nelson, a cornerback and receiver for Dallas Christian, verbally committed to Texas Tech on Monday. Recruited as an athlete by grad assistant Jeff Howard and offensive line coach Chris Thomsen, Nelson became the Red Raiders’ 12th commitment of the 2013 recruiting class.
