Nehemiah Wagner ready as a CB

7/22/2012

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – For 2014 cornerback Nehemiah Wagner (Mesquite, Texas/Horn), the Texas State 7-on-7 Championships offered the perfect opportunity to show his intangibles. He has good size at 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds, and he has solid speed and field vision.

Wagner was tested throughout the 7-on-7 tournament, but he managed to hold his own against some of the top receivers in Texas.

“I’m confident in my game and I work hard,” Wagner said. “I want people to see my breaks and how I cut to the ball.”

Wiley Vonner, the cornerbacks coach at Horn, calls Wagner “a real sleeper” in the recruiting game. Currently, Wagner only has interest from Oklahoma State and Baylor.

Wagner’s stock could see a spike during the 2012 season as he makes the transition to cornerback from safety. He’s hoping to have a similar success story as De’Vante Harris, an ESPN 150 cornerback and four-star Under Armour All-American who is preparing for his freshman season at Texas A&M.

“I saw what he did,” Wagner said of Harris, “and I think I can do that, too.”
