UConn QB commit Richard Lagow shines

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- With a gold medal around his neck and a smile on his face, 6-foot-6 Plano (Texas) High School quarterback Richard Lagow stood taller -- literally and figuratively -- than the rest in the Texas Division I state 7-on-7 championships at Texas A&M.

Lagow, a Connecticut commitment, led the Wildcats to the state title with a 45-28 win over Manvel, Texas -- a squad loaded with elite college prospects.

"We were playing with a chip on our shoulder," said Lagow, who was named the tournament's MVP. "We know we were flying under the radar. We barely qualified [for the state tournament] in the last [qualifying] tournament of the year. We believed we could win state. We came out here and proved that by playing with that chip on our shoulder."
