Stock rising for TE Cameron Knight

6/26/2012

Earlier this month at a Texas A&M satellite camp in DeSoto, Texas, 2014 tight end Cameron Knight (Shallowater, Texas/Shallowater) made highlight after highlight in 1-on-1 drills. His one-handed catches earned oohs and aahs from fans in attendance.

At 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds, Knight is a Y tight end, but he wants college recruits to know that he can make the big catch if put in that situation.

“Most of the time, when I’m out playing catch with my dad, I don’t use my left hand,” Knight said. “I’ll just catch with one hand, and then I’ll switch hands. It’s just something I’ve gotten used to.

“Mostly, I’m blocking, but when you get your number called, you want to show you can do everything a receiver can do.”

Knight is a big fan of Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, and he tries to pattern his game after his. Knight said that while Witten might not be the fastest tight end, he has excellent hands and always shows a level of toughness that garners respect.

Knight has shown his skill at camps hosted by A&M, Texas, TCU and Oklahoma State. He expects to attend a camp at Texas Tech next month.

In his first varsity season in 2011, Knight was named a first-team, all-district selection at Shallowater, which advanced to the Texas Class 3A Division II quarterfinals. He has received early interest from TCU, Colorado State, Texas Tech, West Texas A&M and Hardin-Simmons.

“I just want to show that I may be from a [Class] 3A school, but I can hang with the best of them,” Knight said. “It’s hard to get recruited when you’re at a smaller school, and I’m out here showing what I can do. I want to get a lot of exposure.”
