Texas State was the first school that wanted to invest in the potential of quarterback Tyler Jones (Stephenville, Texas), as the Bobcats offered him in May. On Tuesday, Jones decided to return the love and become a part of a program looking to make some noise in FBS football.
Jones verbally committed to Texas State and became the Bobcats’ first commitment of the 2013 recruiting class. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound gunslinger chose Texas State over an offer from New Mexico, but he also had received interest from TCU, Houston, SMU, Texas Tech and Louisiana Tech.
Recruited by defensive tackles coach Reuben Vaughn, Jones said helping Texas State’s move from FCS to FBS play had some impact on his decision. The choice primarily was made because of how he felt about the coaching staff.
