Tulsa has fared well looking within the state for its 2013 class and that trend continued Wednesday with the latest Golden Hurricane commitment.
Linebacker Devin Rolan (McAlester, Okla./McAlester) is the fourth in-state recruit to commit to Tulsa, making it official Wednesday.
“The coaches and the atmosphere are the biggest reasons why I chose Tulsa,” Rolan said. “It’s a real family atmosphere and the coaches treat you like people, too, not just players.”
Rolan, who is 5-foot-11 and 225 pounds, has been a frequent visitor to the Tulsa campus in the last few months. He even posted a Twitter photo of him wearing Tulsa apparel two months ago, saying it would be his future home.
Rolan is a three-star recruit ranked No. 9 in Oklahoma.
He is the fourth of Tulsa’s six commitments to come from the state. Three-star recruits offensive guard Rob Boyd (Vian, Okla./Vian) and quarterback Ben Oberste (Sallisaw, Okla./Sallisaw) pledged earlier as did fullback Chris Hall (Tulsa, Okla./Union).
“I’m friends with Rob, and we’ve been talking a lot lately,” Rolan said. “I’m glad to have this out of the way because I’m not about this attention. I’m about playing, and I cannot wait to get back out there.”
Former teammate Adam Boyd signed with Tulsa’s 2012 class, and Rolan said Adam Boyd is one of his closest friends.
