TCU gets another TE in Charlie Reid

6/6/2012

Offer No. 6 for TCU came less than 12 hours after offer No. 5 was made official. The fifth and sixth offers have given the Horned Frogs their potential tight ends of the future.

After Bryson Burtnett (Springtown, Texas/Springtown) committed to TCU late Tuesday evening, fellow tight end Charlie Reid (Fort Worth, Texas/All Saints Episcopal) gave his verbal pledge to the Horned Frogs Wednesday morning. Recruited by co-offensive coordinator Jarrett Anderson, Reid chose TCU over offers from UCLA, Ole Miss and Utah.

“He was pumped,” Reid said of Anderson. “I went up there two days ago and pretty much told him what my plan was. I told him and Coach [Gary] Patterson that that was my plan. They were both excited.”

Because of his versatility, Reid, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound tight end, could be used more as an H-back for the Horned Frogs. He can play tight end, block as a fullback and also line up as a slot receiver.

Reid caught 41 passes for 637 yards and five touchdowns as a junior. He has nearly 1,100 receiving yards as a varsity tight end. Reid also has offers from Arizona, Mississippi State, Colorado and Oregon State.

“I’ve gone to other places and seen everything. I’ve gone to camps and have seen campuses,” Reid said. “I’ve enjoyed everywhere, but with every place I liked, I kept looking back at TCU. I did the pros and cons, and I thought about it. I just realized TCU was where I wanted to be. It has everything I want.”
