Spencer picked up his first offer from Kansas on Saturday. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound athlete, who accepted an invitation to The Opening before picking up his first offer, visited Lawrence, Kan., on Tuesday and gave head coach Charlie Weis his verbal commitment.
The commitment was a happy ending in a recruiting fairy tale that started with Spencer making a name for himself at the Nike SPARQ combine. Back in March, Spencer’s SPARQ rating of 141.12 set the combine world on its ear. It was the best rating of 2012 and the third-best rating in SPARQ history.
