ESPNU Watch List safety George Baltimore (Mansfield, Texas/Mansfield) didn’t mix words in explaining his weekend trip to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the LSU-Alabama clash. He was part of a sellout crowd of 101,821 to watch LSU’s 9-6 overtime win in the contest dubbed by many as “the game of the century.”
“It was crazy,” Baltimore said. “I’ve been to a lot of [Texas] Tech games, and I went to the Oklahoma-Florida game in ’08, but this game was unreal. Everybody said to just watch the game at home. It’s not the same. Going to a game like that is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
Baltimore said LSU and Alabama are two of the eight schools that have made his final list. Also on the junior’s list are Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, Oklahoma State and Michigan State. Texas Tech and Michigan State have offered the 6-foot, 195-pound safety, who also sees time in the offensive backfield.
A playmaker on both sides of the ball, Baltimore said when he makes his decision, the winning school will have more to offer than just football.
“When I start taking my officials, I want to know about football, but I also want to know what a school has to offer academically,” Baltimore said. “School work comes first, and the academic program has to be good. I want to know that coaches care more about my school work.”
Baltimore said his next visit may be to Stillwater, Okla., to check out the Dec. 3 season finale between Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. That trip may or may not happen, depending on if Mansfield is still alive in the Texas Class 5A playoffs.
