Since his performance at the Dallas Nike Football Training Camp in March, the popularity of cornerback Anthony Canady (Mesquite, Texas/Mesquite) has been on the rise in the recruiting ranks. Canady recently picked up his first offer and is now working on getting additional offers.
Canady, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound cornerback, picked up an offer from Rice last week. He was offered by defensive line coach Michael Slater. Canady also has interest from Baylor, Tulsa, TCU, Texas Tech and Washington State.
“I got it Tuesday morning,” Canady said of the Rice offer. “When I got it, I was excited. It’s a dream come true.
“I talked to [Slater] on the phone, and he came to our practice the next day after they offered. He said I’m a great football player, and he liked my ball skills and that I can make plays.”
Canady showed his worth at the NFTC, as he was named the MVP of defensive backs. He held his own in 1-on-1 drills against some of the top receivers in the region. He’s hoping to show more scouts over the summer that he is capable of being an FBS defensive back.
“I want to show,” Canady said, “that I’m a lockdown corner.”
