RB Jefferson decommits from TAMU

3/21/2012

Running back Johnny Jefferson (Killeen, Texas/Shoemaker) has decommited from Texas A&M and reopened his recruitment.

Jefferson committed to Texas A&M in mid-February. It was a decision he felt he made spur of the moment following an A&M junior day.

For the past couple of weeks, Jefferson has wavered on his decision after visiting TCU at the end of February and Baylor on Wednesday for the football program’s pro day. Early Wednesday evening, Jefferson officially decommitted from the Aggies.

“It was one of my first ones, and I think I decided too early,” Jefferson said. “I should have waited to see what everyone else had to offer first.

“As I look around, all the schools are the same, but the players and coaches are different. I had a chance to see what TCU and Baylor had, and I really liked them.”

A 5-foot-10, 190-pound running back, Jefferson has offers from Notre Dame, UCLA, Ohio State and Houston, in addition to Baylor and TCU. Jefferson picked up the offer from Baylor during the pro day. Oklahoma State and Alabama are two schools that have shown considerable interest but have yet to formally offer.

As for his interest in A&M, Jefferson said, “I don’t think they’re on the list anymore.”

Jefferson is a durable back with excellent speed. He has been clocked in the 40-yard dash in 4.36 seconds. He was an all-district selection for Shoemaker in 2011, rushing for 812 yards and nine touchdowns and averaging 5 yards per carry.
