Hutchinson Community had another successful season in 2011. The Blue Dragons went 9-3 and defeated Lackawanna in the Salt City Bowl to finish in the top 10 for the fourth consecutive year. While wide receiver Cordarelle Patterson played a big role in their success, coach Rion Rhoades had several other standouts who will be signing on Wednesday to play at the next level.
Markus Golden is headed to the SEC. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound linebacker will ink with Missouri on Wednesday. Tim Edmond signed with Ohio coming out of high school in 2009, and the 6-foot, 230-pound linebacker is set to join the Bobcats again this fall. Like Edmond, offensive lineman Chris Hawkins will also stick with the school he committed to out of high school, as he intends to sign with Troy next week. Running back Derek Campbell has not made a decision, but Rhoades said there is a chance he ends up at Nevada.
Other commits include defensive back Brian King with Texas-San Antonio, defensive back Darrius Morrow with South Alabama, defensive lineman Kamalie Matthews with Murray State, running back Deveon Dinwiddie with North Dakota State, offensive lineman Jonathan Brown with Northeastern State, linebacker Shane Smith with Fort Hays State, defensive lineman Riyadh Moore with Emporia State, defensive back Duan Sims with Baker University, fullback Cameron Brandon with McPherson College, and defensive lineman Anthony Mendoza with Friends University.
Three players, quarterback Elliott Alford, defensive lineman Tyler Rayl and offensive lineman Malique Webster, intend to sign after the spring semester.
Defensive tackle Toby Johnson and linebacker Darrius Stroud, who both claim offers from several schools, will return to Hutchinson for another year, with Johnson scheduled to graduate in December 2012.
