Per Euless (Texas) Trinity recruiting coordinator John Thompson, two Trinity players have announced their verbal commitments. Two-star kicker Austin Lopez has committed to San Jose State, and under-the-radar running back Joel Kimpela has committed to Georgetown.
Lopez, a 6-foot, 160-pound senior, chose San Jose State over an offer from Stephen F. Austin and interest from UTSA, Iowa State and North Texas. He made 52 extra points and connected on eight field goals for a Trinity team that was 12-1 this past season.
Kimpela, one of the surprises of the Dallas-Fort Worth area in 2011, rushed for 2,090 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2011. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound back, who averaged 10 yards per carry, only had another offer from Incarnate Word.
