Cyclones get No. 6 in Wisconsin OL

6/7/2013

The older brother of offensive lineman Kory Kodanko (De Pere, Wis./West De Pere) is a walk-on at Wisconsin. Kory has decided to pave his own path in the Big 12.

Kodanko has verbally committed to Iowa State, the sixth commitment for the Cyclones in the 2014 cycle. He also became the first lineman to commit to the Cyclones and head coach Paul Rhoads.

Kodanko is the younger brother of 6-foot-9, 332-pound Riki Kodanko, a redshirt junior for the Badgers.

Kodanko, who conversed primarily with graduate assistant Derek Day, chose Iowa State over an offer from North Dakota and interest from Wisconsin and Michigan State. At 6-foot-6 and 320 pounds, Kodanko was offered by the Cyclones after attending a junior day in March.

“The environment that Coach Rhodes created and everything around it seemed like a perfect fit for me,” Kodanko said. “There’s no other place I’d rather spend my four or five years of college.”

A left tackle for West De Pere, Kodanko said he was recruited to be an interior lineman, most likely a guard. He most recently visited Ames, Iowa, last weekend for an unofficial visit.

“It feels pretty good; I’m excited about it,” he said of the commitment and playing in the Big 12. “I’m looking forward to working hard. I know it’s a tough conference, and I have some improvements to make, but I’m looking forward to being part of a great team and playing in a widely known and well-known conference.”
