Iowa State picked up its fifth commitment of the 2014 recruiting class on Thursday when Martinez Syria (Houston/Nimitz) gave the Cyclones his verbal pledge, according to Nimitz head coach Robert Toomer.
Syria saw time at fullback, running back, slot receiver, safety and cornerback last season for Nimitz.
He is Iowa State's first 2014 commit to assist in the offensive backfield. A 6-foot, 200-pound bruiser, Syria is expected to play running back for the Cyclones. Offensively, he rushed for 386 yards and six touchdowns and averaged 9.4 yards per carry while partnering with running back Dre’Vian Young, a 2013 Utah signee.
Syria is only the second offensive commit for the Cyclones in this class, joining four-star wide receiver Allen Lazard (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale).
