ALLEN, Texas -- Consider Sunday as the national coming-out party for Jacob Bragg (Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches).
Bragg was impressive from the start to the conclusion of the Nike Football Training Camp at Allen (Texas) High School. In fact, he was so impressive that the 6-foot-4, 308-pound offensive guard was named the MVP of the offensive linemen.
It was a welcomed change from the last NFTC Bragg participated in. He said he used last year’s camp experience as motivation for this year.
“I think it says a lot about the hard work put in,” Bragg said. “Last year, I went and didn’t do so well. I went back that summer and taught myself to keep going and going. It turned out good, because I ended up here.”
Keep in mind that Bragg earned the honor over more acclaimed players such as ESPN Watch List lineman Ty Barrett (Dallas/Skyline), Texas A&M commit Kealvin Davis (Garland, Texas/Lakeview Centennial), Kansas State commit Robert Castaneda (Round Rock, Texas/Round Rock) and highly touted 2015 lineman Zach Rogers (Carrollton, Texas/Hebron).
This is a lineman with only two offers at the moment. Bragg has offers from Louisiana Tech and Kansas, but he also has interest from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Baylor.
Bragg’s performance was enough to ask the question: What’s with the lack of national recognition?
“Maybe I’m just not the biggest name right now. I don’t really know,” Bragg said. “I can bring size and speed to the table. I’m really strong off the ball. I’ll take on anyone in front of me.”
Bragg said he hopes the MVP honor will give a boost to his recruiting. He also hopes the performance ultimately will earn him an invitation to The Opening in the summer.
“We’ll see,” he said. “They said they’ll go back and review my tape. Right now, I’m just grateful for the opportunity to compete against so much talent on the field. It was crazy.”
