Football Recruiting - Midlands Region: Tulsa Golden Hurricane

2015 two-way standout Sam Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano) has heard all about his father’s college football career. Kerry Tecklenburg was a standout linebacker at Texas Tech in the 1980s, and in 1983, he earned the program’s Dell Morgan Memorial Courage Award.

So when Sam picked up a Texas Tech offer after last week’s satellite camp in Lancaster, Texas, it was special knowing that, if it is his decision, he could follow his father’s footsteps. Tecklenburg has three offers, SMU and Tulsa included.

Each week this spring, GigEmNation reporter Sam Khan Jr. will bring you notes/nuggets from watching and visiting with high school football prospects in the Greater Houston area that week. He will include observations of Texas A&M commitments and targets and other players who catch his attention. Here's this week's installment:

MANVEL, Texas -- For some, camps are a chance for players to show college coaches that they're worthy of an offer. For those who have more offers than they can fathom, it's a chance to watch, interact and visit with the coaches to get a feel for the program's staff.

CEDAR HILL, Texas -- The second annual Mike Adams Camp of Conquerors 7-on-7 tournament featured 13 of the top 7-on-7 teams in the Dallas area on Saturday. The tournament, put on by the NFL defensive back, gives the opportunity to win $5,000 for the winning 7-on-7 program.

Early Saturday evening, Mesquite (Texas) Horn defeated Cedar Hill to walk away with the championship.

HOUSTON — Katy (Texas) High School 2016 safety Collin Wilder is rare in that he started games on Katy's varsity as a freshman. According to head coach Gary Joseph, only two Tigers in the last 31 years have done that and one of them is Wilder's teammate, 2015 running back Rodney Anderson.

At least one coach on Texas Tech's staff already knew Wilder's name in 2012. That's because his team faced Wilder and the Tigers on the field. Texas Tech's current running backs coach, Mike Jinks, was the head coach at Cibolo (Texas) Steele last season when the Knights encountered Katy in the Texas 5A Division II state semifinals.

LANCASTER, Texas -- Coveted defensive end/outside linebacker hybrid Victor Evans (Dallas/Skyline) didn’t participate, but he was in attendance watching Tuesday’s Texas Tech satellite camp relatively in silence. Every now and then, he’d chat on the sidelines or crack a joke with high school teammate -- and heavily recruited offensive tackle -- Ty Barrett.

For the most part, Evans was very businesslike in watching the Red Raiders coaching staff and how they coached the campers. Following the camp, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound athlete announced his top five.

MOORE, Okla. -- It has been a couple of years since Oklahoma recruited at Moore (Okla.) Southmoore. OU hit the school hard with prospects like quarterback Kendal Thompson, defensive back Julian Wilson and tight end Austin Haywood.

The Sooners have a reason to return with Class of 2014 wide receiver Jalen Adams. He has made several unofficial visits to OU, including last month for the spring game.

Already with an offer from Tulsa, Adams said schools such as Oklahoma State, Kansas State and Stanford are showing constant interest. Adams, who had 39 receptions for 766 yards and eight touchdowns last season, will be at OU’s football camp in two weeks.

TEXAS CITY, Texas -- These days, it's all smiles for ESPN 150 receiver Armanti Foreman.

Life is good for the Texas City (Texas) High School star. Offers are coming left and right. He's preparing for a banner senior season with his twin brother, 2014 running back D'Onta Foreman. He's enjoying the final weeks of his junior year of high school. On Tuesday, Armanti was sprinting past defensive backs and juking defenders out of their shorts, showing the playmaking ability that has so many colleges at his doorstep.

Brenham (Texas) High School doesn't conduct a traditional spring football practice, but like many of their fellow Lone Star State schools, the Cubs still make sure to get plenty of offseason work in.

That has helped players such as 2014 offensive tackle Austin Schlottmann, who has seen several college coaches walk through the doors of Brenham since the evaluation period began last month.

For 2015 Hale Hentges (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias Catholic), the question isn’t about how many offers he’ll end up with. Hentges, at 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, already has eight offers -- the latest coming from Nebraska -- and is expected to receive several more before it’s time for him to sign a national letter of intent.

The biggest question for Hentges is where he’ll play in college. Will he be a tight end or a defensive end? He happens to be good at both positions. Very good.

For a while, Texas City (Texas) High School 2014 running back D'Onta Foreman had to exhibit patience.

As his twin brother, ESPN 150 receiver Armanti Foreman, saw big-time offer after big-time offer roll in, D'Onta continued to work in hopes that his time would come.

Four-star wide receiver Monte Harrison (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Lee’s Summit West) became the latest to hit the recruiting trifecta on Tuesday.

Harrison started the morning with an offer from Iowa. Minutes later, he was offered by Tulsa. Later in the afternoon, Harrison added Kentucky to his list. Kentucky is his third SEC offer, joining Arkansas and Missouri.

Prior to Tuesday, Harrison described his recruiting process as “pretty quiet.”

Jacob Kaiser (St. Joseph, Mo./Central) has grown up in a house of Missouri Tigers fans, and playing in the school colors would be welcomed if he was given the opportunity. Kaiser has taken unofficial visits to Missouri, but he took in his first spring-practice experience on Thursday.

Early last month, Damian Walker Jr. (Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Timberview) was a phone call away from enjoying life as a Big Ten commit. For whatever reason, Walker never finished the task at hand.

Coaching changes can mean a lot of things for recruits. For Argyle (Texas) Liberty Christian offensive guard Brad Lundblade, it meant starting all over with Oklahoma.

Lundblade, who is 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds, was starting to develop a strong bond with former OU offensive tackles coach Bruce Kittle before Kittle was unexpectedly let go by OU last month.

Out was Kittle and in is Bill Bedenbaugh. Lundblade had a chance to talk to Bedenbaugh on the phone, but he wanted to meet the new coach so he took an unofficial visit to OU last week followed by a visit to Tulsa.

The OU visit was nice, but the Tulsa visit earned him an offer. North Texas is his other offer, but he’s hearing from several Big 12 schools.

When you have the bloodlines of defensive back J.R. Reed (Plano, Texas/Prestonwood Christian), everybody expects great things from you. Reed is the son of former Minnesota Vikings standout receiver Jake Reed, who had nearly 7,000 receiving yards and 36 touchdowns for his 12-year career.
