TYLER, Texas -- East Texas often is considered one of the nation’s most underrated areas in finding elite talent when it comes to college football recruiting. Sunday featured the inaugural East Texas Sports Network combine, which showcased more than 100 players from East Texas.

The event took place at the Accelerate Performance Enhancement Center (APEC) training facility, which has trained professionals such as quarterback Graham Harrell, running back Kendall Hunter and pro baseball pitchers Phillip Humber and Josh Tomlin.

If you were to search the Houston area's receiving leaders for 2012, Ishmael Zamora's name isn't easy to find.

That hasn't stopped college coaches from finding the Houston Elsik 2014 receiver, though.

While he doesn't have eye-popping stats, in part because of the run-heavy offense he plays in, Zamora is discovering that schools are noticing his talent anyway.

Defensive back Derrick Dixon (Dallas/Skyline) understands the purpose of 7-on-7 football, but, because of the kind of player he is, he has never truly enjoyed it.

“You can’t hit anybody,” Dixon said. “That’s me. I’m going to hit you.”

Those are words often uttered by many safeties, and Dixon’s impressive hitting ability has attracted several schools across the country. He has offers from TCU, Texas Tech, West Virginia, Washington State and SMU.

Gladewater (Texas) High School defensive tackle Daylon Mack felt confident in where his recruitment was headed.

Having picked up offers from the two most well-known programs in his home state, visiting both campuses and dissecting it all, he felt certain that he was ready to make a commitment to one of them.

Then Alabama extended the 2015 prospect a scholarship offer and Mack took a step back. Now, the 6-foot-2, 307-pound prospect intends to take his time when it comes to decision-making in the recruiting process.

Daylon Mack's second trip to Texas A&M reinforced some of the feelings he had the first time he ventured to Aggieland.

And because of that, he's beginning to feel like he knows what his future holds.

Texas A&M's Maroon-and-White spring football game was not Justin Dunning's first trip to Aggieland.

Like many high school football players in Texas, he has participated in the Texas state 7-on-7 championships, which were annually held at Texas A&M's Penberthy Rec Sports Complex until this year, when it will move to a new town. Dunning also attended the Aggies' home game against South Carolina State in 2012 on his own accord.

But his trip on Saturday was his first true recruiting visit to Texas A&M and in his words, it was a good one.

DESOTO, Texas -- After winning the defensive back MVP award at the Next Level Athlete South DFW Video Showcase, Ronnie Larue (Dallas/Bishop Dunne) re-emphasized his original objective on the football field.

“I want to come out and prove that I’m one of the best in the state and in the country,” Larue said. “I’m trying to bring a wow factor; every time I go, I try to make people say, ‘Wow.’ ”

ALLEN, Texas -- If it's left up to him, Houston Lamar 2014 quarterback Darrell Colbert Jr. isn't going to be defined by his height.

If he has any say, it will be his play that people will talk about. Some have already noticed. SMU noticed enough to offer Colbert a scholarship and he rewarded the Mustangs for being the first to do so by committing when attending the Mustangs' junior day earlier this year.

Over the weekend at the Elite 11 Dallas regionals and the Dallas Nike Football Training Camp, Colbert set out to showcase his skills and why head coach June Jones and his staff felt it appropriate to target the accomplished signal-caller, who led his Redskins to the Texas Class 5A Division I championship game in 2012.

ALLEN, Texas -- Before his breakout performance at the Houston Nike Football SPARQ Combine, Sugar Land (Texas) Fort Bend Austin 2014 running back Vic Enwere was the definition of an "under-the-radar" prospect.

Having spent only one varsity season as a running back, a handful of colleges had become aware of Enwere and even offered, but more became fully aware of the 6-foot-1, 213-pound prospect after he posted the top SPARQ score (120.51) of the Houston combine on Feb. 23.

ESPN Watch List safety John Bonney hasn't had a break since football two-a-days started last August, and he likely isn't getting one in the near future.

First, Bonney went through football season and helped his Houston Lamar teammates on a magical 16-week run to the Texas Class 5A Division I state championship game. Then he quickly shifted to the hardwood, where he played basketball for the Redskins. And now, Bonney is busy on the track, sprinting with his teammates -- several of whom also played football with him.

HOUSTON -- When it comes to his recruitment, Brandon Colon doesn't plan on leaving anything to chance.

He'll do whatever it takes to get himself noticed by colleges -- even if it means hopping on a plane to go to a camp or combine -- which is what he did on Sunday at the Next Level Athlete South Houston Video Showcase.

HOUSTON -- When it comes to the offseason, Sugar Land (Texas) Fort Bend Austin quarterback Seun Aboderin is leaving no stones unturned.

Whenever he has the chance to compete, he's taking advantage of it.

He did so at the Houston Nike Football SPARQ Combine in February. On Sunday, he went out to the Next Level Athlete South Houston Video Showcase at Houston Kinkaid's Barnhart Stadium to see how he stacked up against the other quarterbacks.
