Each week this spring, GigEmNation reporter Sam Khan Jr. will bring you notes/nuggets from watching and visiting with high school football prospects in the Greater Houston area that week. He will include observations of Texas A&M commitments and targets and other players who catch his attention. Here's this week's installment:

Justin Hilliard sees the ball and runs to it. Then he delivers a crushing blow.

That is the consensus on the 2015 Cincinnati St. Xavier linebacker who already holds 20 offers.

It’s been a good spring for running back Vic Enwere (Sugar Land, Texas/Fort Bend Austin). Now entertaining more than 20 offers, Enwere said he is turning his focus toward summer visits in an effort to trim his list.

ESPN 150 offensive tackle Roderick Johnson (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central) had his spring game invitations this past week. His mind, however, is focused on helping his track and field team get as many accolades as possible.

Johnson is a thrower for Hazelwood Central, and while interested schools such as Missouri and Arkansas held spring games on Saturday, he was participating in a track meet in Kansas.

“We had a meet at KU. It was my first time going,” Johnson said. “It was a good experience.

ALLEN, Texas -- Before his breakout performance at the Houston Nike Football SPARQ Combine, Sugar Land (Texas) Fort Bend Austin 2014 running back Vic Enwere was the definition of an "under-the-radar" prospect.

Having spent only one varsity season as a running back, a handful of colleges had become aware of Enwere and even offered, but more became fully aware of the 6-foot-1, 213-pound prospect after he posted the top SPARQ score (120.51) of the Houston combine on Feb. 23.

There are many in the greater Houston area who feel Vic Enwere (Sugar Land, Texas/Austin) is one of the biggest sleepers not only in the state but also in the country. At 6-foot-2 and 209 pounds, he’s a big-bodied running back with sprinter’s speed and tons of athleticism.

Enwere upped his offer count to eight on Tuesday after picking up offers from Michigan State and Wake Forest. The Michigan State offer was his first Big Ten offer; the Wake Forest offer his first ACC offer.

The list of offers for Gerald Owens (Westville, N.J./West Deptford) is certainly well-rounded. If a Pac-12 team offers soon, he can check the last conference off and complete the list.

College coaches are sometimes quick to tell a high school prospect what he wants to hear, but the words do not always match up with the actions in practice or on film.

Michigan State got impatient.

Initially, the Spartans staff was planning to wait until the spring evaluation period in April to watch Chase Gianacakos (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles North) work out. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound offensive tackle visited Michigan State in February, and Mark Dantonio told Gianacakos the Spartans were not ready to offer.

He continued to stay in contact with offensive line coach Mark Staten, though. Two weeks ago, Staten just asked Gianacakos to send him a tape of him working out.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Turnabout is fair play, and Lonnie Johnson (Gary, Ind./West Side) is starting to play the recruiting game.

A longtime Ohio State lean who wanted to commit to the Buckeyes a few months ago, Johnson stopped himself short of naming Ohio State his leader Monday.

Asked if Ohio State was still his top school, Johnson said: “Yeah, Ohio State," then paused before he said "... really I got a three-headed dragon: It’s Illinois, Nebraska and Ohio State. They’re all at the top of my list. I don’t know where I’m going to go at this point.”

ESPN Watch List defensive end Peyton Newell (Hiawatha, Kan./Hiawatha) estimates that he has picked up seven new offers over the last two weeks. His offer list stretches from UCLA to South Carolina and from Texas to Michigan State. Twenty-seven schools so far have extended verbal offers to the 6-foot-3, 270-pound junior, including the Georgia Bulldogs who offered on Wednesday.

“Yesterday I got offers from Georgia and Michigan State on the same day,” Newell said. “So it has been definitely crazy. I think I have gotten an offer from every conference. It is overwhelming and exciting. And I am very blessed to be in the situation that I am in with being able to have my choice on where to go. So I am really excited for next year.”

The Bulldogs’ coaching staff may be the latest offer but Newell has been on Georgia’s radar for a while.
