Interest picking up for Rashad Kinlaw

11/22/2011

According to Absegami coach Dennis Scuderi, junior Rashad Kinlaw (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) has at least five Division I scholarship offers. Exactly how many offers and what schools those offers are from remain a bit of a mystery.

“I guess it's safe to say he has offers from Rutgers, Boston College and Notre Dame, beyond that I'd really rather not say anything more until Sept. 1 of next year when I have the written offer in my hand,” said Scuderi, a former Rutgers assistant. “Just say he's got a handful. Recruiting has changed so much in the last couple years I just think if you say something [before there's a written offer] and then in the end that offer doesn't come for whatever reason it makes you look bad. Makes it look like someone wasn't telling the truth.

“Rashad is going to be fine. I'd be surprised if he didn't have 25 to 30 offers by the end of December. He ran a 4.45 at Rutgers camp. He's a tremendous athlete.”

Kinlaw plays quarterback for Absegami, but he's missed his team's last six games with a broken fibula.

Scuderi said Kinlaw could play safety, cornerback, wide receiver or quarterback in college.

“He's not going to go to a team with a pro-style offense and be a drop-back quarterback, but he's so good with his reads in the run game,” Scuderi said. “He's also a kick-returner -- and he's a striker. He could start at middle linebacker for us.”

Scuderi said Georgia, North Carolina, Penn State, Syracuse and Tennessee are among the schools that have shown strong interest in Kinlaw.

“Just about every major school in the Northeast will offer him when the time comes,” Scuderi said. “But like I said, until Sept. 1 of next year when things are official I really won't know what he has for offers.”
